Adapting coverage for a complex worksite

Novo Nordisk Auditorium

Project
: Novo Nordisk Auditorium
Customer: Novo Nordisk

Contractor: Per Aarsleff, Icopal & others

With a short timeframe and located on challenging terrain, Novo Nordisk presented a complex plan for a new auditorium at their Måløv facility. The tight deadline meant work on the interior of the building would have to take place before the roof was complete, which meant the structure would have to be protected from bad weather if it was to be completed on time and budget. Sitecover provided a rapid solution that fit the uneven terrain and secured dry conditions on the worksite – helping ensure work could be carried out efficiently without damage or delays.

Project specifications:

  • 43.2 m long
  • 28.8 m wide
  • 14 m height under the hook
  • 2 cranes with combined lift capacity of 10 tonnes

With a tight deadline and challenging site conditions, Novo Nordisk set out on an ambitious project to build an auditorium at their Måløv facility. The plans for the two-storey, partly subterranean building had an added element of difficulty, as it was to be set on uneven terrain varying by about 5 metres.

Given the tight timeframe and design complexity, Novo Nordisk and their contractor sought a construction-site cover solution that would allow for earlier work on the building’s interior, protect the structure and materials from weather and reduce delays.

Sitecover provided a modular cover solution that addressed these issues head-on, starting with a rapid installation of the structure that took just 3 days. Providing full cover for the worksite, the structure met the contractor’s key need by allowing work on the interior to proceed before the roof of the building was complete. Two overhead cranes built into the cover with a combined lifting capacity of 10 tonnes helped to streamline material handling and project logistics. And, demonstrating its ability to function on uneven terrain, the Sitecover structure accommodated the 5-metre variation to keep the site completely sheltered from the elements.

On one occasion, a thunderstorm dumped 20 mm of rain on the site. The Sitecover roof collected and channelled away more than 24 m³ of water that would otherwise have impacted the unfinished structure beneath.

With Sitecover’s modular cover system, the Novo Nordisk auditorium project maintained its schedule, avoided weather-related delays, and enabled simultaneous work on the exterior and interior.

Using Sitecover meant that we could act independently of the weather. We saved money on expenses like drying out, and we were able to start the interior work before the skylights on the roof had been completed
